Troubleshooting the "Expected Item Type Not Provided by remote serve" Error in SSIS SFTP Task

Problem

While using our SFTP Task, you may encounter the following issue:

Get FTP File List: Error: An error occurred with the following
error message: "Execute SftpAction failed. Expected item type but not provided by remote server. To fix this issue, go to Secure FTP connection UI > SFTP Settings Tab > Check [Treat unknown items as files]."

This error can occur randomly or with any storage action from our component without any changes to the package’s configuration.

Solution

Here are some possible solutions to resolve this issue:

1. Check the Option Mentioned in the Error Message:

   • Open your SFTP connection
   • Go to the SFTP Settings tab in the Secure FTP connection UI.
   • Check the option Treat unknown items as files.
     
     

2. When the antivirus is activated, sometimes the SFTP task provides that error:

   • Ensure that your antivirus software is not blocking the SFTP site.

3. Update to the Latest Version:

   • Download the latest version of the SSIS PowerPack. Refer to this article for guidance.
   • Review our release notes to see the issues resolved in recent updates.
